Don’t forget to mark your calendar for READ ACROSS LOUISIANA 2011. On Saturday, February 26th LAE and Louisiana Public Broadcasting are set to host a fun-filled day of reading, educational activities and giveaways. Be sure to check out the celebrations happening in your area on the 26th. So far we’ve confirmed the following location hosts: The Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, The Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles, The Mall of Acadiana in Lafayette, The Boardwalk in Bossier City, The Alexandria Mall in Alexandria and The Pecanland Mall in Monroe.

TODAY IS ELECTION DAY - GO VOTE!

Today, November 2^nd, is Election Day! Make sure to get out and vote. Here is some important information you can use to ensure you'll be ready to vote for LAE Fund for Children and Public Education's recommended candidates.

LAE Fund for Children and Public Education recommends:

• Charlie Melancon for U.S. Senate
  
• Joseph Cao for U.S. Congress 2^nd Congressional District
  

Election Day voting

Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Please remember that identification is required:

• A driver's license,
  
• A Louisiana Special ID, or
  
• Some other generally recognized picture ID that contains your name, address, and signature. 
  
• Voters who have no picture ID may bring a utility bill, payroll check or government document that includes their name and address but they will have to sign an affidavit furnished by the Elections Division in order to vote.

Election Day is here.  Did you know that there are 37 Governors races, 37 U.S. Senate Races, 435 U.S. House Races, and dozens of ballot measures and initiatives that would affect public education, students, and educators?  The number of governorships up for election is more than the nation has ever seen in a single year.  6,118 state legislative seats will be chosen in 46 states.  In most states, it will be the governors and state legislators elected who will draw the lines of congressional districts that will stand for the next decade.    Visit NEA's Education Votes website for tools and resources to help education voters stand up for students and public education.
